Port payé cover from 2001 sent from Port-au-Prince to France …
It is interesting that it went through the regular post as oppose to consular services or a diplomatic pouch
Great discovery of a 1 centime from the Liberty Head issue of 1881. Very nice Jacmel town cancel. At this point it is the earliest recorded postmark for this Haitian philatelic item. More details to come about this great find ….
Once in a century: figuratively and literally. An important sale of rare and unique Léon Montès philatelic items. None of these items have ever been offered for sale to the public since they were purchased between 1914 – 1920 by Montès on his regular visits to the post office in Port-au-Prince. As a keen collector, and with the financial means, he bought sheets to be kept intact of every stamp issued in Haiti for over 50 years. He only missed purchasing Scott 176 as a full sheet, managing only to obtain a strip of 10.
We are glad to announce that these truly amazing Montès items will be offered shortly at auction and/or privately. In a few days we will be illustrating each of these incredible items on a special page on this site (click on tab called Montès at top). Almost all are the only known or reported . This collection is primarily of the GL OZ and surcharges from 1914 – 1920 with some sheets of same surcharge on type 1 and type GL OZ, and full sheets of inverted surcharges etc …
